Everything we witness leaves a mark deep in our subconscious. For me, it was the “Lithuanian Village Markets” by Aleksandras Macijauskas. His work became the impulse for my long-term project, documenting livestock markets across the countries I have traveled.
They say a driver is happy only twice—when they buy a car and when they sell it. At livestock markets, the emotions are far more complex. People form deep bonds with their animals. I focus on the tension of the deal and the silent grief of the sellers—especially the children—who must part with them.
I talk with the traders about their lives and struggles. In return, they ask about ours. This dialogue is as much a part of the process as the shutter click. This series is an ongoing journey, heading towards a dedicated exhibition.
